The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council members attended and participated in the “Seven Days” events marking the 10 years of overcoming hate by spreading kindness and understanding since the tragic events at the Jewish Community Center and Village Shalom in Johnson County.

Over 500 people attended the April 10 Seven Days Kindness Breakfast at the Church of the Resurrection “promoting kindness and understanding through education and dialogue.” The breakfast was hosted by the non-profit’s Youth Leadership Team and staff. Among the participants were Rae Daniel of KSHB 41 and Bill Tammeus.

Awards were presented to Lisa Ginter of Community America Credit Union, a number of scholarships were given to local students and recognition to designers of Kindness Buttons.

Sunday, April 14 saw the “Seven Days Community Kindness Festival at the Jewish Community Center. The family friendly event featured themes of understanding, connection, art and writing activities, music, dancing and a cake walk.

Council members also participated hosting faith tables where the attending families could find out about some of the various faiths in the Kansas City community. Present in the shaded area on a sunny day were representatives from: the Buddhist Rime Center; Christianity – Pastor Robert Johnson of the Resurrection United Methodist Church; the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center – Cirpita Banerjee; Islam – Imam Mohomed Herbert; Judaism – Rabbi D Glickman and Sikh Dharma, Karta Purkh Khalsa.
