Greater Kansas City is well-represented at next month’s Parliament of the World’s Religions in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council is sending an impressive number of interfaith leaders as part of a larger Kansas City contingent to the celebrated gathering, which has been described as the world’s oldest, largest and most inclusive interfaith event in the world.
First held in 1893 as a unique event, the Parliament was revived in 1993, ostensibly as a commemorative event; the overwhelming response to that Parliament led to further parliaments in 1999, 2004 and 2009. This year, the Parliament returns to the United States and anticipates participation by more than 10,000 religious leaders and practitioners from 50 faiths and over six-dozen nations.
The delegation from the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council includes nearly a dozen representatives from as many faith traditions and includes the Chair and Vice Chair of the Council. Some of the local religious communities that will be adding their voices to the Parliament include Alliance of Divine Love, Roman Catholic, Unity, Community of Christ, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Buddhism, Christian Protestant, Baha’i Faith and Islam.
The impact of such participation by local interfaith leaders is a powerful indication of the passion and commitment to interfaith work in the local area. Follow the events or our delegates at the Parliament on Facebook, on Twitter, at Stories of Devotion, and KellyIsola.com.
