The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council (GKCIC) sends its condolences to the families of those who were killed by the attack at the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15th and prays for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.

The GKCIC is dedicated to bringing people together of all religions, and backgrounds. Deliberate desire to murder and maim human beings is the opposite of dialogue, mutual respect, and value for human life. We commend the first responders and so many others who rushed to the aid of victims, and who demonstrated the mutual respect, sense of value, and simple kindness that are the foundation for a peaceful society.

What can we do now that this tragedy has occurred? The Interfaith Council calls on all people to reject violence and hatred and to abandon fear of those with different ideas or from different backgrounds. Let’s come together and lean on each other for emotional and physical healing.

We are grateful to those who are keeping citizens safe, and pray for the police officers and others who are putting their lives on the line as new details continue to emerge. If we value the contributions of all members of society and extend respect to all, we will achieve the goal of the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council — to build “the most welcoming community for all people.”
