A Council Built on Connection.
We are a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors who strives for inclusiveness. The Council is made up of of individuals who belong to 23 distinct faith philosophies represented in the greater community, all of whom are passionate about multi-faith understanding. The Council helps to provide engaging and educational programs, while connecting with other organizations – joining religion, spirit and community.
Our Mission & Vision
Our Mission – Engaging community. Celebrating diversity. Creating harmony. Embracing the sacred.
Our Vision – Building the most welcoming community for all people.
The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council brings people from different religious and spiritual traditions together to deepen understanding, encourage mutual respect, and build relationships across our community.
What we do.
Dialogue. Education. Connection.
We create opportunities for people to learn about one another’s beliefs, traditions, and experiences through conversation, educational programs, and community events.
From interfaith gatherings and cultural celebrations to opportunities for shared learning, our work encourages curiosity, challenges misconceptions, and strengthens relationships across religious and cultural differences.
We believe understanding grows when people have opportunities to meet, listen, ask questions, and discover both their differences and their common ground.
Our Story
Bringing Kansas City Together Since 1989.
The Kansas City Interfaith Council began in 1989, bringing people of different faith traditions together to encourage dialogue, education, and mutual understanding.
For its first fifteen years, the Council was hosted by the Center for Religious Experience and Study (CRES), offering speakers, educational programs, and community gatherings.
In 2005, with support from a Rockefeller Foundation grant through Religions for Peace USA, the Council reorganized as an independent nonprofit organization and became the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council.
Today, the Council continues its commitment to building connections across religious and spiritual traditions throughout the Kansas City region.
